Darunsikkhalai School for Innovative Learning

DSIL FabLab@School located on the 10th Floor of Innovative Learning Institute in King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi main campus.  DSIL FabLab@School started in January 2013 with the funding  support from Mrs.Bunnag Israsena na Ayudhaya and family’s donation. It is a lab embedded in the Constructionism Project Based Learning School in Bangkok Thailand where the students are able to learn by making projects of their interest and have multi-disciplinary classroom approach. The school has been started since 2001 aimed for providing the research and experimental space for the student-centered pedagogy development in Thailand.

DSIL FabLab@School  covered the area of 176 square meter (11 x 16 meter) and designed to separate into 4 main rooms. The 4 main rooms paint in different color and has its own purpose of use.

Functions of 4 rooms

  1. The main area painted in green function for design and general making area.
  2. The hard making area painted in red (in this picture is the pink area) equipped with special cutting and drilling machines which need to get proper training or supervision while using.
  3. The reflection area painted in blue function for small group discussion and also equipped with internet conference devices for the purpose of sharing experiences with other lab locations around the world.
  4. The room is for woodworking such as wood cutting, wood planning, nailing, gluing etc. The purpose is to improve student’s hand skills on woodwork for the project.

Green Room

Design and general making area (Equipped with basic making tools, not dusty or any chemical involved.)

Red Room

Special training needed area. This room equipped with Laser Cutter and other cutting or drilling devices. This room need extra exhaust management and ventilation system since this room will support many tasks that involve the chemicals or dusts.

Blue Room

Meeting, discussing and sharing space. We embedded the internet conference devices to connect the makers and teachers
to the worldwide resources and promote learning and sharing atmosphere.

Purple Room

The room is for woodworking such as wood cutting, wood planning, nailing, gluing etc. The purpose is to improve student’s hand skills on woodwork for the project.
